Requirements, fees, and steps to upgrade to broker
Experience Requirements
Licensed as salesperson in Kansas (or salesperson/broker in another state) and actively engaged for at least 2 years out of last 3 years
Alternative Pathways:
- Licensed 3+ years with 30+ transaction points
- Licensed 2+ years with 40+ transaction points
- Licensed 2+ years with 20-39 transaction points (restricted license - no supervising)
Transaction points system determines approval. Restricted license prohibits supervising Kansas licensees.
Education Requirements
Complete 60 hours of KREC-approved broker pre-license education, including mandatory 30-hour Broker Management Course.
Required Courses:
- Kansas Real Estate Broker Management Course (30 hours) - mandatory
- Kansas Real Estate Broker Fundamentals Course (30 hours)
- Kansas Law Course (4 hours) - required for out-of-state applicants
Course certificate must be received by Commission within 6 months of course completion.
