Understanding Real Estate Reciprocity
Unlike nursing, real estate does not have a national compact license. Instead, reciprocity is negotiated between individual states through bilateral agreements.
What reciprocity typically means:
- Exam waiver: You may not need to retake the national portion of the exam
- Education recognition: Your pre-licensing education may be accepted
- State-specific exam: You'll likely still need to pass the state portion
- Application required: You'll still need to apply and pay fees
Even with reciprocity, most states require you to complete their application process and may have additional requirements. Always verify with the target state's real estate commission.
