Complete a 96-hour pre-license course covering real estate principles and Kentucky license law. Course must be KREC-approved.

Cannot receive credit for more than 9 hours of study per day. Proctored final exam not accessible until the 11th day after starting the course.

Retake Policy: Must retake failed portion within 4 months; $100 fee per attempt

KSP/IdentoGO baseline is $51.25; an FBI-direct option is about $18 plus possible local fingerprint costs. Request the check before exam registration; the report expires 90 days after issuance and a valid report is required for licensure.

Fee Breakdown

Listed fees: exam $100 + license $130 + KSP/IdentoGO screening $51.25 = $281.25. Excludes E&O insurance (from about $106) and the 48-hour post-license education due within the first 2 years, so this is not a complete startup cost.

License Renewal

6 CE hours annually including 3 law hours (12 hours per 2-year cycle). The Kentucky Core Course is required every 4 years, subject to applicable post-license exemptions. Renewal deadline is March 31 of even-numbered years.

License Reciprocity

Current agreements with Florida, Mississippi, and Tennessee, plus MOUs with Illinois and Ohio. A 40-hour Kentucky law course and the state exam still apply, and license-level experience conditions remain; there is no blanket waiver.
