Requirements, fees, and steps to upgrade to broker
Experience Requirements
2 years of experience working at least 20 hours per week as a licensed salesperson
Alternative Pathways:
- 1 year with associate degree in real estate
- 1 year with bachelor's degree with major/minor in real estate
All education and experience must be completed before taking the broker exam.
Education Requirements
Complete 336 classroom hours from approved proprietary school, OR 21 college credit hours with 12 in real estate (including 3 credits in Brokerage Management).
Required Courses:
- Brokerage Management (48 hours) - mandatory
- Additional real estate electives (288 hours)
Each college credit hour equals 16 classroom hours. Pre-licensing education (96 hours) completed for salesperson license does not count toward broker hours.
